Comment upon two other students’ presentations

Today i was on to other bloggs. My clasemates Sander and Ellen Sofie. I look at Sander's exam task, and have to say he did a good job on writing it and posting it. He had some good answers.
I also looked in Ellen's blogg and saw that she had strong opinions about the human rights taskes. I know that Ellen is smart and has strong opinions about almost everything, but she impressed me this time as well, with very long and good answers.

Poetry p337 4+ a) or b)

b) The poem "The immigrant" i belive is about a girl that has been traveling to america maybe, in a ship, over the ocean, to come to a better place to live. i'am guessing that she was young when she travled, becasue it says tht\at she could not remember traveling, or maybe she just dont want to remember that she traveld, or what she traveld from. I belive that the poem is about how immigrant have to get used to new places and new people.

The Volunteer p251 1a-f and 3a-f

1a) the significance of the first Opening sentence of the story is that Carrie does not like to work for free in India, because the first sentence is ‘’Sharing doesn’t work’’. In addition, by that she might think that when she is working there, she feels like it does not work.

1b)  Carrie has gotten a new life in India, where her husband work and she volunteer at a kindergarten of some sort. Here she have to take care of 18 children that she has a different culture and different language. Especially the fact that she does not speak the same language as the others does it very hard for her to work there.

1c) Carrie approach to the children by yelling and giving them orders, while Didi is more kind and polite and patient whit the children. That might be because Carrie does not know how to communicate whit them, so she has to yell for them to understand.

1d+) The text is written from Carries point of view, and that helps us see the story and dilemma from carries eyes.

1f+) I think the theme of the story is cultural differences, in this case, between India and USA.

3a) "The kids surge forward like a shoel of piranhas" is something Carrie says about the childeren to show that she does not like to work with them, and comparing them with prinanhas is in a way saying that the children is dangerous, and in the long run will kill her maybe.

3b) "She's batterd by noise" can be seen ass carrie is ill physically.

3c)"The edges of the malestorm" when this is written the children are described in a bad way once again, and show that she hates working there.

3d) "The children dissolve in a squirming puddle" she more and more describing the children ass animals and incescts.

3e)"in this part of town buildings are pressed thin by other buildings, rooms are compressed to corridors"  The writer gives life to the building, and this might be claustrophobic for Carrie

3f)"sharp voives ricochet off the walls" this might be ment as that the children makes load noises all the time, and it is to mutch for Carrie.

7. febrary exsam task

Picture 1:
On the first picture, we can see Snowden, which is a symbol for human rights, or more a fighter for human rights. Snowden was working for the NSA (The National Security Agency), and the NSA was secretly spying on almost the whole population in the USA over the internet or over the phone. Snowden choose to share that the NSA was doing illegal spying with the world, and the world found out that NSA was breaking the human rights. The government is trying to catch Snowden, since telling the world about these secret documents was illegal as well, but many people has been helping Snowden hide from the U.S government, because they think he did the right thing by telling it to the world. However, What the NSA and the U.S government did was a clear violation on the human rights. People should to things without being watched all the time.
The picture is showing that people, from all over the world, are supporting Snowden for what he did. On the pitcher, we see people from Asia that are supporting Snowden, calling him a hero, and saying shame on the U.S government, for trying to send him to prison. So yeah, the message of the picture is that all over the world, people are happy for what Snowden did.
The message on this picture is that Snowden is a hero, and that he is being thanked form all over the world, and the pitcher shows it fast, because you can see on the people and there writing that they are from Asia, and they are supporting Snowden, for what he did in the USA. And this message conveys very fast and effectively.

Picture 2
In the second picture, we see a photo of the autobiography of Julian Assange. Personally, I have never heard of Julian Assange, but on the photo of his book, there is a photo of Julian’s face. In addition, the title of the book in written in front his mouth, which is a hint that he might never have been allowed to say what he means, which is a violation on the independence right, which is a human right.
The message of the pictures might be that it is never too late speak up and say what is on our hart.
To understand this message you might have to think a lot before you find out what the message is, so I do not think that it is effectively send a message to the people.

Picture 3 (4)
The last picture is about Human Trafficking. We can see four types of human trafficking, which is “forced harbour, trafficking children, sexual trafficking and trafficking of organs that has been removed without the will of the persons that loses they’re organs. All of these things are violation on human rights, and is a big problem in the world, although I believe the most people, including me, does not know a lot about these things. I believe it is a bigger problem than we think.
I think all of these pitchers are showing us that this is a big problem, because the pictures are so intense, and you can easily see that people that is being taken advantage of, is being treated wrong.
I think this message is easy to see, because the photos are so intense and it is easy to see that it is wrong.

27 February Part 1 Exam tasks

Task 1a

In the text “Up Helly Aa” there are used different types of language features, e.g. alliteration, hyperbole, pathos, imagery and informal language. They use all these language features to convince us to spend a vacation in Scotland, and experience the festival, “Up Helly Aa”.

Hyperbole and pathos have some of the same impact on the reader, they both exaggerate and describe the situation in details, for instance, in the text they guarantee us that we will have a great trip and they describe how it will be and what will happen. Also they use alliteration, when several words in a row, start with the same first consonant or sound group,  as a way to formulate their text, for example; “we can tell you that Scotland is exciting, exquisite and enjoyable holiday destination.” The Adjectives they use in the text are positive, and are describing Scotland in a positive way.  Another language feature they use is imagery, where they get you to paint a picture of how things are through their words, this language feature is used all over the text, e.g. when they say that at the end of the ceremony there will be a spectacular torchlight procession and the burning of a replica Viking ship. When you read this you get an image in your head that this is extraordinary and special.  Lastly they use an informal language to connect with the reader. For example when they write; “Scotland is the country we know you’ll want to visit.’’

Task 1b

The positive things about borrowing Anglo-American customs as Halloween, are that we can cherish and share traditions with other cultures. We also learn about other cultures and how they celebrate their holidays. In addition we get to see the differences between our own traditions relative to others, and how we might celebrate the same holidays and traditions in different ways.Cultural relativism is something we can connect to this, it means to not dismiss or condemn other cultures simply because they are different than from your own.

The reason why some maybe think that this is a bad thing, can be that they feel that we may lose or forget our own traditions if we only take from others or that we might not develop something new for us. Also, traditions are something that makes our county to our own country, and if we just take traditions from others we aren't that special anymore. We do not cherish our ancestors’ traditions and celebrations.   I do not mean this in an ethnocentric way, but rather to show the importance of keeping traditions. Ethnocentric means that you view the world as if your culture is in the middle.
